Los Angeles-based Iranian-American producer/DJ Maral returns with Ground Groove, her third album and most ambitious work yet, a hypnotic fusion of Iranian folk traditions and experimental club music. The album opens with Feedback Jam, a heavy, distortion-laden 4/4 invocation that warps time, reversing voices and melodies into a ritualistic overture. From there, Maral refines her self-described "folk club" sound, weaving samples from her parents’ mixtapes (1980s/90s Iranian pop, classical, and folk) into pulsing, psychedelic rhythms.

Beyond its literal grooves, Ground Groove evokes the slow, inevitable flow of history. It’s a meditation on cultural memory, resilience, and the communal power of music, whether heard in a club or through headphones on a train.
