Canoga to Haʻikū began as a shared moment—Carlos and Jesse recording together in a California studio, their music a quiet conversation between friends. Then distance intervened: Jesse traveled to Maui, where borrowed synthesizers (a Casio CZ-1000) and the island’s chorus—children, birds, insects, lizards, frogs, goats, wind and rain—became the album’s final brushstrokes.

Yet separation couldn’t sever their creative thread. Across the Pacific, the songs remained tethered: palm trees swaying toward that glimmering horizon line, a rainbow arcing over the water, all of it whispering back to Carlos’ studio. Here, friendship transforms into sound—an embrace as vast as the ocean, yet intimate as a single sustained note.
