Los Angeles-based Iranian-American producer/DJ Maral returns with Ground Groove, her third album and most ambitious work yet—a hypnotic fusion of Iranian folk traditions and experimental club music. The album opens with Feedback Jam, a heavy, distortion-laden 4/4 invocation that warps time, reversing voices and melodies into a ritualistic overture. From there, Maral refines her self-described "folk club" sound, weaving samples from her parents’ mixtapes (1980s/90s Iranian pop, classical, and folk) into pulsing, psychedelic rhythms.

Beyond its literal grooves, Ground Groove evokes the slow, inevitable flow of history—where individual voices carve paths toward the present. It’s a meditation on cultural memory, resilience, and the communal power of music, whether heard in a club or through headphones on a train.
