Canoga to Haʻikū began as a shared moment—Carlos and Jesse recording together in a California studio, their music a quiet conversation between friends. Then distance intervened: Jesse traveled to Maui, where borrowed synthesizers (a Casio CZ-1000) and the island’s chorus. Children, birds, insects, lizards, frogs, goats, wind and rain became the album’s final brushstrokes.

Yet separation couldn’t sever their creative thread. Across the Pacific, the songs remained tethered: palm trees swaying toward that glimmering horizon line, a rainbow arcing over the water, all of it whispering back to Carlos’ studio. Here, friendship transforms into sound, an embrace as vast as the ocean, yet intimate as a single sustained note.
